Accepted.... NOT!

50 excited new students were accepted into Kellogg School of Management earlier this month. Then a couple days later they were told it was a mistake. Apparently a computer error caused 50 applicants who were actually rejected to receive their acceptance letters via email. It only took the school a few days to sort out the confusion but the damage had already been done. One of the fifty had even already had a congratulatory dinner in his honor for his acceptance.  The school had apologized for the inconvenience and is planning on returning the applicants $235 application fee to them.

I know that I would extremely embarrassed if that happened to me. I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to be accepted to a college and then be told later that it was a mistake. You weren’t good enough. Both my sister and brother had gone through the process of college applications and the whole thing stressed them out a lot. They had gotten into fight with my parents over it. When they weren’t accepted to a school that they wanted to go to, it was hard for them. If they had been accepted to the school of their choice and then were denied later, I think they might have exploded. I know some seniors that are going through the process of applying right now. It would be scary to think that you could be accepted and then to be told that they just didn’t quite make it. That would be so sad.

I think it would be really bad and emotionally draining to have to go through this experiment. The up side to this is there are so many collages out there. Starting now I have gotten many e-mails from collages and I'm just starting to explore the schools and already I have seen many that I like. So even if one school is the school I really want to go to I have found many others that I can go to and enjoy.

Lauren,
I heard about this story too! I felt so sorry for the students. I started to wonder if the college should maybe have just taken them after what they did to the students. It just seems like a painful experience to go through especially after all the stress of college applications!

How could you make such an awful mistake. These people probably told their family and friends and were very excited about being accepted there, and then told it was a mistake. That would be horribly embarrassing. An apology from this school couldn't make up for this kind of mistake.
